My dad has been feeling pretty nauseous lately - does anyone have any recommendations for foods he should try? He had a craving for blueberry blintzes recently...

how are you??? i have to say i am so impressed with all that you have sone here.... we are thinking about you all the time, and are checking in daily with the mrs.....

tell your dad to try ginger tea, and ginger ale.... also, this may sound crazy, but the altiods sours have been known to help.. just ask anyone who has been sick from being pregnant.. i would say let him eat whatever he craves, it will probably be what he can tolerate best.

Mark,

I know this sounds crazy but I have a friend who swears by apple cider vinegar. I have never tried it but it may be worth a shot! Also, anything with ginger is good too. Try letting the bubbles out of ginger ale - it makes the ginger stronger. You can also buy fresh ginger at the store and grate it with a cheese grater and add it to anything (tea, pasta, etc. When all else fails – go for the saltines!

Hope this helps! As always Dave and I are sending you and your family good thoughts every day!

Keep up the postings and the positive attitude!

I agree with the sour my go to was sour patch kids - they are easy to carry with you and they are fun to eat, I also suggest m&m's they just make you happy when you are eating them and definitely eat what you want - that always makes me feel better.

Hey Mark,

As you know, unfortunately, I know my way around cancer side-effects. I spent a lot of time helping Frann deal with the side effects of chemotherapy. She too had odd cravings, the most frequent one was for Gray's Papaya Smoothies (72nd and B'way - not that easy for a Danbury, CT girl to get to...lucky for her she had a sister on the upper west side!) Not only did she crave it, very often it was the only thing that stayed down and helped her with the incredible mouth sores she had. She learned early on that whatever she craved, was okay to eat (even 3 Musketeer bars!) and very often actually made her feel better. So, eat those blintzes and enjoy every bite. And, if you remember Frann from High School, you won't be surprised to learn that she too found a lot of comfort in pot. Actually, it was significantly better than the pill form her doctors prescribed.

Also, I remember giving her these Sea Bands I wore when I was dealing with morning sickness. They sell them in health food stores for motion sickness. They are like sweat bands with plastic balls that you place over a specific pressure point on your writst. They didn't quite relieve the symptoms but I remember her saying "they took the edge off" - just like they did for me with my morning sickness. They may be worth a try...

Hey Mark,

A craving for blueberry blintzes? Are you sure you're not pregnant? But seriously, all the comments about ginger are right on. And you can also get it in capsule form (dissicated ginger). Bernice always had terrible motion sickness on airplanes and sometimes even in cars. A few years ago the former dean of the grad school at Auburn told her about ginger, and it has really been a miracle. She takes it before she flies and has not been sick since. And it doesn't leave you drowsy, as dramamine does.

Auburn is having a candlelight vigil tonight in memory of the students and faculty at Virginia Tech. We're also wearing orange and maroon today to show support.

Keep the faith.

Dear Mark,
If attitude is a major factor in the battle with cancer, then you have what it takes to fight this battle. We send you love and support. You might look into trying slippery elm (inner bark)- comes in a liquid form from quantum -at the New City Health Food Store for nausea. Ask your doctor first...also research it on line. It may be helpful.
Our very best wishes as you fight this battle. It sounds like you are in good hands and are receiving cutting edge therapy with the MEK inhibitor. You have a loving and supportive family.
Love,
Phyllis and Mel

Mark,

This may have come in twice as I I forgot my password so had to re-write.

You are incredible! Getting out (to Dan's house) was an example of you beating the cancer. You will win this battle. The medication has to be a doing quite a number on you but just look forward to the time when you will be off it and begin to feel better. I remember how sick my mother was on the massive amounts of chemo she was getting. We thought it was hell. 14 years later, (who would have thought? she was stage 1V) she just came back from a cruise to Panama and will be here for Tracy's baby shower. She wasn't half the fighter you are and we had to convince her to find the will to live. You have it. Nurture it, believe in it, and let it take you through the healing process.

Maybe dinner one night next week? I'll call Nicki.
